at Newcastle Equestrian Centre

Heatherbrae NSW 2324

Ryans is an internationally renowned breeding and training establishment, owned and run by Heath and Rozzie Ryan, now based at their own Newcastle Equestrian Centre, right on the Pacific Highway, in Heatherbrae NSW.

History...

The NSW Equestrian Centre was a frontrunner in the equestrian industry when the sport was in its infancy, running World Cup showjumping, establishing a Lochinvar three-day event and many one-day events, running the Lochinvar FEI weekends that later developed into the impressive Sydney CDI that is held annually at SIEC.

The centre for years also played host to a comprehensive level one NCAS live-in training course and under Heath's influence an unending stream of riders/trainers have come up through the ranks, including John and Pip Cooper (Falcon Sporthorses), Will Enzinger, Murray Lamperd, Simone Kahn, Kevin McNab, Guy Wallace, Melissa Hughes, Ann-Maree Lourey, Shaun France, Christine Crawford, Malcolm Kerridge, Michael Baker, Prue and Craig Barrett, Matt Ryan, Nicholas Fyffe, Boyd Martin, Emma Mason… the list is endless.

Today...

Ryans is the working environment for not only Heath and Rozzie Ryan but also Gordon Bishop, Leesa Miles and Wendy Ward.

At the head of it all is Heath Ryan, Level 3 general coach, many times assistant national event coach and a prime mover in Australia's consecutive Olympic gold medals. He also has a vision of Olympic medal-winning dressage, and to that end is inspired in his breeding program.

Regardez Moi and Jive Magic are just the latest in the stallions at Ryans, which have previously included Richmeed Medallion, Salute and Ludendorf. All have had a huge impact on Australian dressage and that influence can be expected to continue well into the future.

Heath Ryan has been an Australian representative in both eventing and dressage. He rode at the World Equestrian Games in 1990 at Stockholm on Stirling Goshawk, in the Trans Tasman in New Zealand on Stirling Shade; he rode GV Stirling Stilton at the European Dressage Championships at Hickstead in the UK in 2003 and Stilton at the WEG 2002 in Jerez. Heath has had other Grand Prix horses including Ludendorf himself, Dom Edin, and in 2008, Greenoaks Dundee - with whom he was a member of the Australian Dressage Team at the Beijing Olympics! His current ride, the black stallion Regardez Moi won the Pacific League Final of the World Cup in 2008, and will be representing Australia at the World Cup Final in Las Vegas in April 2009. All whilst also campaigning horses at the highest levels of Eventing: with Flame, winning the Adelaide International 4-star 3DE 2006; and with home-bred Mystery Whisper (Medallion/Salute), winning the Sydney International 3-star 3DE 2008.

Rozzie Ryan, a level 3 dressage coach, was one of Australia's first Grand Prix dressage riders on Stirling Wilton, representing Australia at the World Equestrian Games in Stockholm in 1990. She continued to ride at GP level on Stirling Tower and Statford Park Sigismund (reserve for Stockholm and Australian representive in New Zealand), Barrington Ock Tedi (competed at the European Dressage Championships at Luxembourg in 1995), Exellent (represented Australia at the Dressage Freestyle World Cup in s'Hertogenbosch, twice Australian national champion), Arglen Kaleb, Mansfield Park Axel, Neversfelde Samoneinen and Greenoaks Legend. With the mare Donna Carrera, Rozzie represented Australia at the 2008 World Cup Final in S'Hertogenbosch, and she is now currently campaigning her own FEI stallion Jive Magic, about to make his debut at Grand Prix.

Ryans has a broodmare herd of about 100 mares, and the seven staff also serve more than 100 outside mares each season. There are almost 60 competition horses worked each day at the centre while each weekend sees a convoy of horse trucks set off to the many one-day events around NSW. Riders are even seen in Qld and Victoria at regular intervals.

Ryans reflects Heath's pursuit of excellence, his incredible focus and 150% dedication to the sport.
